September 17th-Hot Pockets at the Judds
This week we have focused our efforts on member missionary work. So many of the days were filled with calling members of both wards and trying to meet with them and share a message about missionary work. The first night we did this, Tuesday we experienced a cool miracle of prayer. We had no one to visit with after dinner and we were very bummed. We said a quick prayer of guidance and immediately we got a text from a family in Aliso Creek saying that they wanted to meet with us right then. It was awesome, They are a super awesome young family and they promised to invite their neighbor to church. We were so happy that night after heavenly Father answered our prayer in a simple way. The rest of our week has really just been filled with meeting with members and inviting them to hand out a Book of Mormon or invite their friend to church.
Sunday, We met with the Judd family from the Live Oak ward. Because of a time crunch we couldn't be there for their real dinner, Sister Judd gave us Hot pockets, Doritos, chocolate milk, and Pop tarts for dessert. We did a family history search and found out that somehow I was the least related to Brother Judd out of all of us, we all thought that it was hilarious. They were also so passionate about missionary work, and brother and sister Judd went on a 30 minute rant about how the ward needs to be better at missionary work! They promised to do everything they could to find someone for us to teach!
This week I started the Book of Mormon over again and I have loved it. One of my favorite quotes from 1 Nephi 16:23,29,30
23 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did make out of wood a bow, and out of a straight stick, an arrow; wherefore, I did arm myself with a bow and an arrow, with a sling and with stones. And I said unto my father: Whither shall I go to obtain food?
29 And there was also written upon them a new writing, which was plain to be read, which did give us understanding concerning the ways of the Lord; and it was written and changed from time to time, according to the faith and diligence which we gave unto it. And thus we see that by small means the Lord can bring about great things.
30 And it came to pass that I, Nephi, did go forth up into the top of the mountain, according to the directions which were given upon the ball.
After Nephi was faced with adversity, he didn't sit around and complain, He immediately went to the Lord and was Directed to the mountain, or the Temple, and sought wisdom from the Lord. When faced with adversity I usually act more like Lamen and Lemuel who murmer endlessly, but I am grateful for the example of Nephi who shows us how to act with faith and diligence when life does not go my way. I know that the Lord truly does guide us through faith and diligence to places we need to be by the spirit.
Peace be the journey,
Elder Judd
