June 10-The town greeter came to town
I'm staying! transfer news came and I am staying here for another couple weeks! This transfer is going to be cut short because we get the new mission president and mission on July 1st. Elder Burrows and I just want to hit this awkward 3 week transfer hard!
Had a lot of cool things happen this week! We thought we were gonna be white washed out of the area so we did all we could to progress all the people we are working with. We really tried to get as hard as we could to get them all to church. On Sunday morning we thought we were going to have 4 people come to church but by the time sacrament started only 1 showed up! She is the sweetest old lady I've ever met. She is what some would an "eternigator" she has been taght by the missionaries since the dawn of time. She loves the church, she loves the members, she loves the activities, but has never been to church. We had to go do some service at her home and at the end we told her that we were speaking at church and likley to leave the area so we wanted her to come. She came and sat front row with her neighbor! No one at church could believe she came, I couldn't either. It was a miracle! But the bigger miracle was when I looked back into the audience, I saw a familiar face, a familiar face to all of Laguna Beach I should say. It was THE TOWN GREETER! To you this may mean nothing, but to the ward it was crazy. For decades there has been a homeless man welcoming the people to LB on the PCH, he is a local legend. The original has passed away and so has the second one, but this third generation town greeter is the best! He wheres a sparkly red vest, white gloves and a sailor hat. He is my Hero! He came to our church randomly because a member invited him recently. It was so cool. We got a pic with him and hopefully will be able to teach him soon. It was the highlight of my mission. (He has a wiki page if you want more info)
Like I said, Laguna Beach is a wild place. I love it. Here is one of the scriptures I focused my talk on
Moroni 7
47 But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.
48 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure. Amen.
My focus was on being filled with the love of Christ throughout the week. That is something I will be focused on this week as I really want to feel that peace daily. I know that as we act in charity, our hearts will be filled.
Ta Ta for now
Love,
Elder Judd
